Sir Frederick's earlier book traced his line of Pedler's back to 1205, in Devon, and many related families to the early 16th century. Predictable, his book stimulated a great deal of interest in the family, with the result that several cousins have researched sources not previously investigated while overseas branches of the family have provided great detail on the spread of the family in Australia, America and South Africa in particular. Sir Frederick has continued his own researches, both into other lines of ancestry and into archival sources that provide fascinating detail on how the family lived, at various periods, and on the careers of individuals. Now, a number of years after his first book was published, he has skilfully incorporated all the nee material that has come to light into a second volumes.
Putting flesh on the pedigree there are new facts about the medieval Pedeleure and about the part played by the family in Withiel in the Civil War. The Lanhydrock Estate archives have shed much light on the Pedlers, while the Sloggett forebears have been traced to the 14th century. Members of the Devonshire branch have traced a family tree with more than 970 names from on John Pedler (Buckland Brewer, adjacent to Frithelstock, 1600) while the Pedler Family Reunion Committee of Australia published a remarkable book in 1986 containing thousands of names, many with biographies and photographs, to which Sir Frederick is now able to add some more. Similarly, the Pedler Family Association of Michigan has supplied details of their descent from Withiel Pedlers and of the distinguished careers of some American Pedlers.
This second volume greatly expands the Pedler saga and will be even more widely popular that its predecessor.
