The last edition of the union listing of basic genealogical resources available in Public Libraries in the west of Scotland was published in 1983. Several reasons now prompt a revised edition, not least its warm reception among family historians whose numbers ever seem to increase. Public Library authorities have responded accordingly, by adding to their holdings of Census Returns and Old Parochial Register on microfilm.
Two notable additions to this revision include: a submission from the Registrar General on the Statutory Registers of births, Deaths and Marriages and a brief guide on researching Scottish Family history for those living abroad.
Since many copies of the previous edition of this book were bought by Family History Societies and their members throughout the world, its was though to be worthwhile to include some notes on family history research by post.
