Surrey is a county of contrasts; urban development and rural landscapes; busy motorways and country lanes. And in spite of the giddy pace of modern life and the onslaught of traffic, there are still may peaceful villages and hamlets. They are set in traditional surroundings, with village greens and pretty cottages, and they remain very attractive. This book is a celebration of them in colour.
Each manages to retain its particular character. There is Chobham, bustling and attractive, with its smart shops and restaurants. Shalford, on the Wey Navigation, remains a village of boats even though it is so close to the centre of Guildford. There are villages with well-known landmarks link Abinger Hammer and villages off the beaten track like Dunsford and Titsey.
Photographer Andy Williams demonstrates that Surrey continues to be a county of enchanting landscapes. His book will give pleasure to the many people who still value these villages for preserving the very roots of English life.
