This work (actually a single publication), by two authors, covers Ross-shire,
Sutherland, and Caithness, and goes through the region area by area, discussing
local and family history, traditions, tales and stories, and historical
personages.
By far the larger portion of the work is devoted to Ross-shire, moving from
Black Isle to Dingwall, to Kyle, Kintail, Glenshiel, and ultimately down to Ben
Wyvis. Today, we would say that it follows the path a traveller would take along
the roads of these three counties, but it does give so much local information
about events, places, and people.
