Written by Lyman Horace Weeks, this 370 page book is fully titled "The Book
of Bruce:
Ancestors and Descendants of King
Robert of Scotland, Being an Historical and Genealogical Survey of the Kingly
and Noble Scottish House of Bruce, with Special Reference to the Bruces of
Clackmannan, Cultmalindie, Caithness, and the Shetland Islands, and Their
American Descendants".
This history begins with a discussion of the Bruce family and its supposed
Scandinavian origin, the family's introduction to Scotland and the accession to
the throne of Robert the Bruce.
There then are chapters on the Bruces of Clackmannan, Cultmalindie, and
Caithness; the Bruces of Kinloss, Elgin, and Kincardine; the Bruces of Airth;
the Cavendish-Bruce family of the Dukes of Devonshire; the Royal House of
Stewart; the line of the Irish kings; the ancient Royal House of Scotland; the
line of the Saxon Kings; Bruce ancestry from royal Houses of Europe; and then
associated or collateral families with which the Bruces were involved. This
chapter provides information on the Dunbar, Scrimgeour, De Clare, Carrick, De
Burgh, Warrenne, Elphinston, Oliphant, and Campbell families. Finally, there is
a chapter on the Bruces in America.
