This CD-ROM index contains over 221,000 records of births, death and marriages registered in Tasmania, as well as including those who enrolled in Tasmania to serve with the Australian Imperial Forces and died in service during World War I.
The births included cover the period 1900 to 1919, and the marriages and deaths 1900 to 1930. If an entry of interest is located in this index a certificate of the record can be purchased from the Registrar of Births, Death and Marriages Tasmania.
Using the Digger software allows the user to search and find information extremely quickly and easily. The information fields contained on this CD are: Surname, Given Names, Event, Father/Spouse Surname, Mother/Spouse Given Names, Day, Month, Year, Age, Sex, Place, Registration Year, and Registration Number.
Some of the features of Digger are:
- it allows the user to search using one or more fields of information
- wildcard searches (ie Je*cott retrieves Jephcott, Jefcott and Jeffcott)
- truncation searches (ie Hall* retrieves Halls, Halloran, Haller)
- reverse truncation searches (ie *Donnell retrieves Donnell, O'Donnell, MacDonnell)
- 'like' (phonetic) searches (ie 'like' Myer locates Mier, Meyer etc)
- a list of all entries or words in a field can be viewed and selected into the search screen
- results can be viewed in a list or as a single record
- in list format the data can be sorted by any field
- you can print or export your results, which is compatible with word processing and database software
