| The full title of this work is: "The Certificates of the Commissioners Appointed to Survey the Chantries, Guilds, Hospitals, etc. in the County of York", and it this CD includes both Part 1 and Part 2, and was published by the Surtees Society, in 1894-5.
The information has been taken from documents compiled for the Dissolution of the Chantries in 1546 and 1548, and this transcription gives details of all the chantries throughout the length and breadth of Yorkshire, both inside churches and on the highways etc. It gives the names of founders and incumbents of each chantry, plus a survey of its lands and possessions, together with names of tenants and rents paid. Many hundreds of names of people are included, from all social classes. Complete with a comprehensive index.
Useful for local and ecclesiastical historians, and excellent resource for family historians with Yorkshire ancestors. This is 640 pages of real Tudor history.
