Description

The Bosanquets are of great interest for they afford an excellent example of the those French families which, in the two hundred years between about 1550 and 1750, were driven from their country because of their faith. They were Huguenots, a unit in the host of followers of Calvin who sought a purer form of worship in a reformed church, and were thus persecuted. The Wars of Religion' which devastated France in the 16th century saw the emergence of the Huguenots as a political force, taking the side of the Protestant Prince Henri de Navarre.
