If you're looking for family in England, and you are researching earlier 1837, parish records are one of the 'core' records to be consulting, but accessibility hasn't always been the easiest. Finally we are now seeing some of these parish records scanned and made accessible on CD.
The parish registers for the Staffordshire parish of Tipton is covered by this CD. The baptisms, marriages and burials for the period 1513-1736 are all listed. These were published in three volumes containing the following:
- Volume 1: Births and Baptisms 1513-1664, Marriages and Burials 1514-1664
- Volume 2: Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1664-1724
- Volume 3: Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1697-1736
Note: When you get back beyond 1752 in England, remember that dates on
records and documents will be in the Julian calendar, not the current Gregorian.
Officially the Gregorian calendar was introduced in October 1582, but the
changeover was slow, and England did not adopt this calendar until September
1752.
The CD contains digitally enhanced images of the whole of the original book,
which is fully searchable, bookmarked, and is printable.
