These are records of the Public Trustee who was responsible for the administration of the estates of Mental Patients until their release or death. The period of bookkeeping is from 1908-40, although many inmates were committed in the 19th century. Many former interstaters are included, some of whom died in SA institutions or were transferred to Victoria or NSW. Apart from the interstate institutions, admissions were generally to Enfield Receiving Home, Parkside Mental Hospital or Northfield Mental Hospital: a number were criminal mental defectives transferred from various gaols. Details include: names; former occupation, address; full dates of admission, discharge and/or death; their estate in monetary terms and an indication of personal, house and land property.
