The aim of this publication is to provide a comprehensive record of shipping movements in and out of the port of Sydney from 1 January 1841 to 31 December 1844.
Also included in the shipping lists are reports of wrecks and other events of a nautical nature. The book is thus a chronicle of the maritime activities in new South Wales during that period, for the benefit of researchers, ship enthusiasts, historians and genealogists.
Only contemporary sources have been used to compile this record of both ocean-going and coastal voyages, as well as harbour activities and shipping developments mentioned in the newspapers of the day. The primary source throughout has been the 'Sydney Morning Herald' with addition reference to the 'Sydney Gazette' and the 'Harbour Masters' records.
All known voyages are recorded in the one sequential list, including the type of vessel, tonnage, the Master's name, and that of the owner if available, ports of call, and brief details of cargo and passengers, with some names where space permits.
Includes some photographs, and also includes whaling reports, discoveries, wrecks and mutinies, etc.
