This volume includes transcripts of all known accessible inscriptions in
various West Lothian burial grounds which mention deaths before 1855 (the year
in which the registration of births, deaths and marriages became compulsory in
Scotland). In addition, some inscriptions not mentioning any pre-1855 deaths
have been included if it seemed from their proximity to the pre-1855 stones
bearing the same surname that there was probably some relationship between the
two families.
Each cemetery has a map, which gives each gravesite a number and shows the
location of it within the burial ground. Then each headstone is transcribed in
full (in number order).
Burial grounds covered by this volume are: Ecclesmachen Churchyard,
Kirkliston Churchyard, Linlithgow Churchyard and Cemetery, Livingston
Churchyard, South Queensberry Old Churchyard, Carmelite Priory (Friary),
Torphicen Churchyard, Uphall Churchyard (Strathbrock), and Whitburn Churchyard
and Cemetery.
