This volume includes transcripts of all known accessible inscriptions in West Stirlingshire which mention deaths before 1855 (the year in which the registration of births, deaths and marriages became compulsory in Scotland).
Before 1855 the only official record of these events were the 'Old Parochial Registers', in which there are many gaps; in particular the death records are extremely defective. The inscriptions in this volume are in a summaried form, but all basic information is retained.
