From 1855 compulsory registration has been in force in Scotland, and records are maintained by the Registrar General of all births, marriage and deaths in the county. Post-1855 inscriptions have been recorded here if they mention a surname appearing also on an adjacent pre-1855 stone, and for some of the smaller burial grounds, all inscriptions have been recorded.
Burial grounds covered are: Arbirlot, Arbroath Abbey, Arbroath cemetery, Carmyllie, Craig Church-House, Inchbraoch (Rossie Is), Dunninald (St Skeoch's), Usan (St Mary's), Inverkeilor, Lunan, Maryton, Montrose parish church, Montrose Episcopal church, Rosehill cemetery, Howff of Kinnaber, Panbride, St Vigeans.
