In 1873 there was a national survey of all land owners covering all of the counties in England (and Wales). All those who owned 1 acre or more were listed in this government publication, together with the address/location, the amount of land and its value. (The survey did not include central London, although of course, the majority of the areas of counties such as Middlesex, Surrey, etc. are included). Therefore these immense volumes provide an invaluable source of information for historians and genealogists.
