A note in the foreword written by Ron Parsons: In the 1960s I reprinted an item that was originally published in the 'Daily Commercial News and Shipping List' for December 1947, that was titled A History of the Australian Steam Navigation Company and the Australasian United Steam Navigation Company Limited.
The article apparently was a condensation of an unpublished manuscript by Emerson Curtis prepared for the A.U.S.N. in 1946. He had called the work 'They Spread White Wings' but he was a nautical person, nor had he some very much research on the subject being content to accept what he could find from Company documents and/or secondary sources.
While some of the material in this book comes from Emerson's manuscript, most is from original research carried out by the author.
