Pigot's directories are one of the best known English directories. They contain not only a description of all major county towns, together with lists of tradespeople (name, occupation, and address) and of nobility, gentry and clergy, as well as having general local information, and topographical details as well.
Directories are an invaluable source of genealogical information, as they can fill in the gaps, and place a person in a particular place at a particular time, and usually listing their address and occupation as well ... Published every few years, these can be used to fill in the years between censuses, or in this case BEFORE the census even started. Containing directories from Kent, Surrey and Sussex, if you have connections in two or more of these counties, this is a very cheap way to buy the directories, and they come all on the one CD.
