They contain not only a description of all major county towns, together with lists of tradespeople (name, occupation, and address) and of nobility, gentry and clergy, as well as having general local information, and topographical details as well.
Directories are an invaluable source of genealogical information, as they can fill in the gaps, and place a person in a particular place at a particular time, and usually listing their address and occupation as well ...
