This work is one of a series of works prepared to fill a void in ready access references covering the period in the development of Australia before 1829.
Previously the only reference available in a compiled form was the T.D. Mutch Index. This work, valuable as it has been, covered only the Church of England records in Sydney and some on Norfolk Island. He also indexed some of the Van Diemen's Land Musters.
The 'People' part of the book is set out in a table format, listing surname, first name/s, then other details (sometimes this is title, date of birth, marriage date, or miscellaneous notes picked up from differing records).
