The 'Past and Present' series of maps provides a unique series of
snapshots of Britain's towns and cities both now, and at three crucial points in
their history. This large fold-out map, contains four maps, each relating to
the particular towns in the title, but each map is from a different era. So it
shows the region changing over time.
The first three (old) maps were created from one or more of the appropriate
series, and have now been reimaged and scaled to match the current Landranger
series at a scale of 1:50,000, so all maps show the same area.
- Ordnance Survey Old Series (Surveyed 1780s-1869, published 1805-1874)
- Ordnance Survey New Series (Surveyed 1842-1893, published 1895-1899)
- Ordnance Survey Popular Edition (Surveyed 1912-1923, published 1919-1926)
- Present-day 1:50,000 OS Mapping - Landranger series (Revised 1953-present,
published 1974-present)
A fascinating look at the place over time. This will be useful for a
historians with an interest in the region. Please check back regularly, as this
series is still being published, we will be adding new titles as they are
released.
