The introduction to this guide gives a general overview of the start of
Paddle Steamers in both Australia (in 1831) and New Zealand (early 1850s). The
rest of the book then is an alphabetical listing of the Paddle Steamers
associated (owned or operated) with both countries.
The information in each of the entries is in the following order: Name,
official number where known, material used in constructing the hull, side or
stern wheels, gross and net tonnage, dimensions (official if located), year of
build, name of builder and place of construction. Engine - type where known,
horsepower shown is usually quoted from the registration and is nominal. Owners
and port of registration which is the same as first shown until another port is
named. Fate when known. This is followed by any additional information.
