Oxfordshire's roots lie in its villages. Despite the changes brought about by
the age of the motor car, the villages still retain their character and charm
and are a source of pride and delight to both local people and visitors.
Towards the end of the 1980s, the County's local village Women's Institutes
set about the task of recording the recording the history, atmosphere,
anecdotes, people and events of over 260 of their villages. The notes and
illustrations were then collected into a book 'The Oxfordshire Village Book,
which the Oxfordshire Women's Institutes have now revised, updated and expanded
for this new edition.
The villages of Oxfordshire in the 21st century continue to flourish and
prosper and this book will be a welcome companion to all with an interest in the
county.
