Written by Michael Jones in 1985, this history of Strathfield in Sydney's west has been republished on CD in partnership with the Strathfield City Council.
'Oasis in the West' is a celebration of Strathfield’s first 100 years (1885-1985). The book tells the history of the town of Strathfield in New South Wales from the time when the first free settlers tried to establish farms in 1793, to the date of publication in 1985. It covers information on the railway lines, early pioneers, magnificent housing, the garden city, social diversity, schools and churches, the fight against amalgamation and the survival of a unique and beautiful residential community.
This book provides a detailed history of Strathfield dispersed throughout with many quotes, excerpts and photographs.
