The Sands and McDougall directories are amongst the most comprehensive. This on contains over 1600 pages, covering tens of thousands of people. You can also find out more details about places in which they live, the other residents in the are, and the services available in the region ... all of which help to paint a picture of your ancestors' life.

Apart from the Street, Alphabetical, Trade and Professional directories, this volume also contains Government and Official, Ecclesiastical, Legal, Municipal, Colonial, Societies and Institutions directories.

How can this Directory help me?
Directories are an extremely useful tool for establishing when and where a person lived. However this is just a starting point. Look further in the directory to find out more information about the society in which they lived, the occupations they held and their neighbours. Using this directory will give you the names of the householders, street-by-street for a number of suburbs. The Alphabetical section lists all householders alphabetically by surname, together with their occupations. You will also find the Trade directory useful. It lists everyone alphabetically by trade, together with their address.

High quality scanned images of the whole of the original book. This CD has been bookmarked for easy navigation, and pages can be searched, browsed, enlarged and printed out if required.
