There are two cemeteries in Braidwood: the old one and the new lawn cemetery, both under the control of the Tallaganda Shire Council in Braidwood. The old cemetery has not been in regular use since the early 1970s when the lawn cemetery was established; occasionally, though, there is a burial of someone who reserved his or her plot many years ago.
This publication by the Heraldry and Genealogy Society of Canberra of the burials in the old Braidwood cemetery is important as this list, and the list compiled by the Braidwood Historical Society about 20 years ago, are the only extant lists of burials in the Braidwood cemetery. Both lists only contain burials with headstone. As the Tallaganda Shire Council mislaid the lists of burials provided to it by the churches with the Council assumed responsibility for the cemetery in the early 1960s.
While this compilation is not a word-for-word transcript of the monuental inscriptions in the old Braidwood cemetery, all the relevant genealogical details have been included, names, dates, ages, even verses that may be written on the headstone (even if its in a foreign language).
