This publication gives details of Marriages from the following sources: Bishop
of London's Office 1521 to 1828, Dean and Chapter of Westminster's Office 1599
to 1699, Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1543 to 1869,
Vicar-General's Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1660 to 1679.
This CD is based on the transcriptions of Colonel Chester who saved these
entries from obscurity when he discovered a huge number of unindexed marriage
records in Latin. This work was then published by Joseph Foster in alphabetical
order in 1887. It contains over 800 pages of entries. The record of these
marriages often eludes those tracing a family name because the marriages were
scattered geographically.
Please note: that those that were married in London came from all over England. Entries are arranged alphabetically by surname for easy reference.
Example entries:
Biss, Edward (Bisse), of St. Leonard Eastcheap, London, bachelor, 26, and
Sarah Rudge, of St. Andrew, Holborn, spinster, 20, with consent of her mother Mrs.
Martha Rudge, now wife of Edward Lewis, attested by Edward Lewis, of St. Andrew,
Holborn, gent. - at St. Mary Magdalen, Old Fish Street, London, or . . . . 13
Oct. 1802. F.
Faunce, Robert, of St. Margaret, near Rochester, co. Kent, widower, 28, and Elizabeth Head, of the city of Rochester, spinster, 19, daughter of
Richard Head, of same, gent., who consents - at St. Leonard, Eastcheap, London.
29 Sept. 1662. F.
