The major project of providing all UK Census data on CD is continuing with the release of 1851 Census of London. The CDs provide bookmarked images of the microfiche allowing the user to jump to areas and use PRO references, as well as the street indexes which are included. The images of the book pages are scanned, checked, image processed, cropped, cleaned and bookmarked by folio. The street indexes go through a similar process with links created to the pages of the Census for that street. The final product allows you to own a compact and fast method of accessing the Census. No more expensive research trips, no more thumbing your way through thousands of fiche.
The box set of CDs set consists of 31 CDs. The areas covered include Paddington, Kensington, Fulham, Chelsea, St George Hanover Square, Westminster, Marylebone, Hampstead, Pancras, Islington, Hackney, St Giles, Strand, Holborn, London City, Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, St George in the East, Stepney, Mile End Old Town, Poplar, St Saviour, Southwark, Lambeth, Wandsworth, Camberwell, Greenwich, Lewisham and Woolwich. This has a Street Index which links to the appropriate Registration District and the page for that street can be quickly displayed. This index is on every CD in the set.
