If you're looking for family in England, and you are researching earlier 1837, parish records are one of the 'core' records to be consulting, but accessibility hasn't always been the easiest. Finally we are now seeing some of these parish records scanned and made accessible on CD.
The parish registers for the parish of Grantham, in Lincolnshire are covered by this CD. The baptisms and burials for the period 1562-1632, and the marriages 1563-1632 are listed.
Note: When you get back beyond 1752 in England, remember that dates on records and documents will be in the Julian calendar, not the current Gregorian. Officially the Gregorian calendar was introduced in October 1582, but the changeover was slow, and England did not adopt this calendar until September 1752.
