Description

Recent years have seen the closure or merging of most of the Church of England Colleges of Education. It is tragic that so many historic foundations should disappear or lose their identities. King Alfred's College is thankfully an exception.

In 1840 the original Winchester Diocesan Training School had five men students, trained to teach the children of the poor: the present College has over 1,000 men and women students, studying a wide range of disciplines. It has survived many threats to its existence since its foundation as one of the very first church colleges.
