The records of the Irish Churches are among the earliest, and are undoubtedly
the most comprehensive, sources of personal information available to researchers
of Irish family and social history. Despite their importance, there is little
published information on the way in which these records have been compiled, or
on the facts which caused such variation in the availability of records, and in
the format and detail of what is recorded.
This book attempts to fill this gap. It presents chapters on the records of
all the major, and several of the minor denominations which have existed in
Ireland during the last three centuries.
Contains chapters on the records of eight major Irish denominations such as:
Church of England, Presbyterian, Methodist, Huguenot, Irish Quaker, Catholic,
Irish Jewish and Irish Baptist. It provides details of the types of records
maintained by each church, and their relevance to Irish family, church and local
history. The locations of the records of each church, and guidelines for their
access are also provided. The types of record described are illustrated
throughout, and the book is fully indexed.
