This is a facsimile of the 'Colonisation Circular' issued by Her Majesty's Colonial Land and Emigration Commissioners in May 1854. It was decided tp reproduce it in full because of the important information it contains for historians.
The compiler writes 'as a teacher of family history I am often asked about the voyages to Australia, the cost of passage etc. Many questions asked by students can be answered by reading this book.'
'Colonization Circulars' were published in England from 1843 to 1873, volumes 1 to 32. The British Library in London holds all of these volumes.
This circular is reproduced from a poor original. However, the interesting information can be read.
Some of the topics covered include: Emigration, Cost of Passage, Demand for Labour, Prices: North America, Prices: North America and Cape, Prices: Australia, Wages, Disposal of Crown Lands, Climate, Population, Miscellaneous.
