The full title of this book is 'A Genealogical Account of the Descendants of James Young, Merchant Burgess of Aberdeen, and Rachel Cruickshank, His Wife, 1697-1893'. Written by William Johnston, and this edition was originally published in 1893.
This is an account of the descendants of an Aberdeen couple from the late 17th through the late 19th centuries, and is an updated edition of a work first written around 1836 and printed in 1861. As such, it is an unusual historical and genealogical history of an Aberdeen line, covering 200 years of activity in the commercial world of that city. Numerous local families intermarried with the Youngs, including: Anderson, Leith, Souter (Johnston), Black, Jopp, Haddan, Fordyce, Gibbon, Pearson, Lundy, and others.
