This title originally produced in 1969, has been reprinted with minor additions 2003. Nothing from the original volume has been deleted, but some information such as official numbers, name of builder etc. not included in the first edition, has been added in to this one. The details of ships registers in the port were extracted in long hand from the original register books by Mr W.G. (Bill) Volum with the kind permission of the Comptrolled General of Customs.
The book is divided into several sections, the main parts being the "Fleets of Shipowners with Vessels Registered in Geelong", as well as the "Details of Vessels Inscribed on the Register of British Ships, at Geelong, Victoria". The Fleets section, is set out in column format, and information given consists of persons name, what the hull was made of (ie. wood, iron etc), the number of masts, what type of vessel it was (ie. cutter, schooner, brigantine etc.), this is followed by the dates, the first being the year the vessel was built, the second is the year the vessel was acquired and the third, is the year it was disposed.
The "Vessels" section lists in date order, each of the vessels that were registered at the Port of Geelong, together with the vessel name, type of vessel, when it was built (often where too), various owners, tonnage, and often what happened to the vessel (ie. wrecked or transferred).
