Australia's greatest social upheaval, occurred between the years of 1914 and 1918. Few, if any families at all, remained untouched by the war, everyone seemed to know someone who had been killed or wounded, but the recruits still came forward to enlist. Those that returned, brought home many souvenirs and mementoes of their time abroad. Many others preferred to record their experiences by way of camera or correspondence to remind themselves and others about their part in the 'great adventure'.
This publication is a collection of photographs, postcards, letters and diaries all relating to the first world war. It is a collection of experiences of what the men and women who participated in various ways in the war, years ago, experiences of what they were exposed to during a conflict which had been described as the war to end all wars.
