Description

This book is the story of leadership within the Australian Army and in particular during World War Two and in Korea.

During a twelve month period in the Korean War, 3RAR had three commanders - Green who was killed by enemy artillery, Ferguson who was removed from his command for reasons that are still debated and Hassett who was widely accepted as a great military leader and a true 'officer and a gentleman'.

During these changes of command 3RAR successfully fought the battles of Kapyong and Maryang San.

Review:
Many more Australians have commanded infantry Battalions in action than brigades or divisions, but there are few books about the problems of command at this intensely personal and demanding level. With vast personal experience of infantry battalions at war, the authors are well equipped to bring to life the remarkable achievements of these three outstanding Australian battalion commanders. - Professor David Horner, ANU
