"The rapid tempo of war had led to an increasing speed in the development
of equipment. It is probably true that such developments moved at a more rapid
rate during the recent war than ever before in the annals of history. In no arm or service of the fighting forces has this development been
greater than in the Engineers." - General Sir Thomas A. Blamey
This publication describes the work and achievements of the Royal Australian
Engineers throughout the duration of the Second World War. It includes a list of
Engineers involved in campaigns during the war, a list of those who were
presented with decorations and awards, and a memoriam list of those who lost
their lives.
A particular feature of this book are the range of photographs taken in the
Middle East, and the sketches and paintings by Sgt. J.A. Salt which document
the work the Royal Australian Engineers were involved in, in Borneo and
Australia during the War.
