Wills are an extremely valuable, and are an often under-used source of genealogical information, but they can give details of family members, places of residence and burial as well as revealing details about their possessions.
This index has been compiled by the Scottish Record Society, and published circa 1898. It includes the 'Commissariot Record of Edniburgh 1601-1700' which is an index to Wills in Edinburgh covering these years, as well as including the 'Commissariot Record of Hamilton and Campsie 1564-1800, which was edited by Francis H. Grant and published in 1898.
Totalling over 500 pages, and listing thousands of names, this index in a valuable tool, to those looking to know if a will was ever made. Arranged alphabetically by surname, together with first name/s, and a description (sometimes relationship to another person, sometimes a place is mentioned), together with the date.
