Description

The East Sussex County Council was created by the Local Government Act of 1888 and held its first meeting the following year. In 1974 it gave way to a new Council when the boundaries of the administrative County were redrawn. Since its creation it has seen many social changes and has had to come to terms with the advent of the motorcar and all the problems brought with it. After two World Wars, it was chiefly concerned with the development of social services, and new attitudes in planning the preservation of the countryside, plus the provision of education for all.
