Back in 1854 Eagleby was then known as German Pocket, as a reasonable number of German emigrants had settled in the area. Many of the German families who first settled in the Eagleby area are buried in the pioneer cemetery in Herses Road. Please note: German inscripitons have been translated into English.
From the 1970s, a burgeoning population of mostly young families required schools, neighbourhood shopping centres, childcare and sporting facilities, almost overnight it seems. Located centrally in the Gold Coast – Brisbane Corridor, enclosed within a scenic pocket of the two rivers, Eagleby today is an example of the blending of the old and new – but only if you look carefully.
This book is a complete transcription of all of the monumental incriptions as they were in the cemetery at Feburary 1996. So it's not just an index, there are photographs, together with the entire headstone entry.
