This booklet includes the most detailed and complete list of the registration districts of England and Wales, from the start of civil registration in July 1837 up to the present day. The dates of creation and abolition of each district are shown, together with the names of earlier and successive districts, and the volume numbers used in the General Record Office's national indexes of births, marriages and deaths.
The Handbook should particularly be useful for researchers using the national indexes, especially where districts and volume numbers are difficult to read on the microfiche or microfilm copies.
Details of how to order birth, marriage and death certificates, together with a list of addresses for current register offices and be found on the civil registration pages for England and Wales on the GENUKI website.
This second edition includes details of the many registration districts which have been created and abolished in the last two years since the first edition went to print.
