Cheshire contains some of England's best loved country houses and the county is exceptionally rich in attractive yet unfamiliar architecture. There are the black and white houses of the Elizabethans; the classical mansions of the large estates on the Cheshire plain; countless small manor houses of the prosperous gentry; and Victorian and Edwardian houses built from fortunes made in Liverpool and Manchester.
