'On the north and west of Glasgow stretches the Lennox Country....It can give a remarkable range of lochside scenery; Loch Lomond, Loch Ard, Loch Chon, and Loch Arklet are set like massive diamonds in the heart of the region; its fringes are washed by Loch Katrine, the Lake of Menteith, the Gareloch, and Loch Long. Its moors and mountains are free as the air.'

Written in 1933, the author Ian Lees, made a three-week walk through the region, starting from and returning to Glasgow, and describing the history and folklore of each site he visited.

The region is of particular interest to the following families: Buchanan, Colquhoun, Crawford, Graham, Lennox, Livingstone, MacAulay, MacFarlan, MacGregor, Napier, Spout, Spreul, and Stewart of Appin. There is as well much in the area relating to the histories of Sir William Wallace and Robert Bruce.

Return to an earlier, more leisurely time, when it was possible for a gentleman to take three weeks off, to just amble along through the countryside. You'll absorb much of the history and aura of the Lennox Country as you travel along with Lees from your armchair.

This CD consists of scans of the whole of the original book, which can be browsed, enlarged and printed if required. Please note: it is not searchable.
