'The Book of Rattery' charts the many changes that have taken place in this ancient parish since earliest time, but essentially over the past one hundred years. The farms and field names, some of which date back to Domesday, gave rise to many surname still surviving locally today. The history of the village for many years revolved abound the ancient Church of St Mary and the Marley Estate.
The name of Rattery itself will always be associated with Brunel's railway running along its southern Border, while the River Dart forms the northern boundary and Dartmoor and the A38 lie to the west. Despite its scattered population, the village retains a good community spirit. Memories and tales of days gone by, together with over 200 treasured photographs, make this book an essential heirloom for anybody interested in the parish, or for those with family associations.
