Welcome to the second 'Book of Addiscombe'. Volume I spurred many memories and contributions, which encouraged Canning and Clyde Road Residents Association to produce Volume II. The Cherry Orchard Road area (the West End) was the first hub of Addiscombe, abuzz with people, shops and significant businesses. In Volume II, the authors consider how housing, shop and business development expanded to The Black Horse (down town LA) and encompassed the adjoining communities of Woodside and Shirley Park, for whom Addiscombe was their focal point.
The book contains new information up to and including the 1960s - everything from geology to genealogy - along with a number of individuals and families from all over Addiscombe who have lived, loved, worked and played in the area and helped make it the strong community it is today.
'The Book of Addiscombe' and 'The Book of Addiscombe Volume II' are a reflection of times past and a celebration of the continuing sense of belonging that exists in the community. By retracing the past and honouring the memoires of those who went before us, we acknowledge the ties that link us from generation to generation.
