The name 'Bloomsbury' brings to mind the Bloomsbury Group of artists, the University of London, the British Museum and the squares which once housed people and publishers. Bloomsbury can claim to be the first London suburb built after the Great Fire. Bloomsbury Square and then Bedford Square—the most architecturally complete of them all—were models for many that came afterwards as London spread westwards and northwards. Many institutions, some to be famous, were established here. They were joined by a group of individuals who found Bloomsbury just what they needed while they made their fame.
