This volume of 'Australian Shipwrecks' completes the first attempt to compile a comprehensive record of ships lost in Australian waters; commenced in 172 by the late Charles Bateson, then continued by the present author, Jack Loney from 1980.
Like its predecessors, the fourth edition deals exclusively with total losses of vessels, and also includes an annual listing of small traders, fishing vessels, lighters, hulks and pleasure craft.
As more than 3000 casualties are recorded, most accounts of necessity are brief, but those readers with an interest in a particular wreck should have few problems continuing their investigations in contemporary newspapers, supplemented by the included bibliography.
Listed in chronological order of the wreck, this book includes many photographs and maps, and also has a bibliography and indexes for the illustrations of ships, and also for major and minor ships.
