Maintaining the ADB's tradition of scholarship, Volume 17 presents a
colourful mosaic of twentieth-century Australia. The host of lives gives a
picture of our society, provides insights into the experiences of our people,
and illuminates large themes in our recent history such as immigration,
accelerating urbanisation and suburbanisation, war (World War II, Korea, Malaya
and Vietnam), material progress, increasing politics, conflict and harmony, and
the loss of isolation. It also reveals something of the greatness and the
littleness of which human beings are capable.
Please note, the names included in this volume are not included on the free Australian Dictionary of Biography website.
