Once a small market town, Andover was transformed after the Second World War by a government decision to make it an 'expanded' town, intended to attract new industries and residents. An ancient town which had administered itself since the Middle Ages, with its own members of Parliament, eventually became part of a larger 'authority'. This new book, the only available comprehensive history of the town, from pre-history to modern times, is entertainingly written and very well illustrated. It explores, in particular, the town's connection with the famous Weyhill Fair, probably the largest sheep and cattle market in England.
